Vizard House is an inner suburban “home away from home”, providing temporary residential accommodation for family and friends visiting patients at city or inner suburban Melbourne hospitals, at a time of financial need and emotional stress.
Recognising a public need, the Vizard Foundation purchased Vizard House in 1992 and donated use of the facility to provide temporary residential accommodation for more than four thousand people each year.
Since it was established, Vizard House has provided more than 125,000 room nights to people who need to be close to their loved ones whilst they are receiving treatment.
Vizard Foundation House is a pair of historic homes built in 1906 that overlook the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens. In 2015 a significant renovation and refurbishment of Vizard House was completed to ensure a high quality of accommodation for all guests.
The day to day management of Vizard House is the responsibility of the Vizard Foundation.
A resident manager ensures comfortable, caring and supportive accommodation and can provide residents with access to professional help if required.
Residents and potential guests are encouraged to discuss arrangements and any concerns with the resident manager, who can help with access to support services, as well as practical advice on matter such as transport, shopping and negotiating the Melbourne environment. Some helpful links and information can be found in Practical Tips for Residents.
