Wildlife Health Surveillance
Wildlife Health Surveillance Victoria plays a vital role in animal disease surveillance in Victoria by bridging a gap in biosecurity and providing animal health knowledge that is critical for the conservation of biodiversity and management of the health of humans and domestic animals.
The organisation was founded in 2008, under the auspices of the Veterinary School at the University of Melbourne, to improve knowledge and understanding of the health of free ranging wildlife populations in Victoria. It does this by maintaining an efficient passive surveillance network which provides the raw observations to diagnostic experts in our major institutions, from where more targeted research and investigation is initiated.
The Foundation provides funds to cover essential operating costs of the organisation including diagnostic work, transportation, coordination, and communication activities.
