‘37’
In 2022, Victorian College of the Arts (University of Melbourne) engaged playwright Nathan Maynard, a Trawlwoolway pakana man, from larapuna country, Northeast Tasmania, and director Isaac Drandic, a Noongar man from the southwest of Western Australia now residing in Cairns, to develop, rehearse and stage the play ‘37’. After a successful season, the play was picked up by Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC) for a mainstage co-production season in 2024 (MTC with Queensland Theatre, QT). The production ran from 2 March – 5 April 2024 at The Sumner Theatre, Melbourne, receiving four and five-star reviews (see media links below), and played successfully at the Billie Brown Theatre, Brisbane over 11 April – 4 May as part of the Queensland Theatre season 2024. The Vizard Foundation are proud to have supported the production of ‘37’ and look forward to supporting upcoming productions with First Nation’s artistic leadership.
