Castlemaine Art Museum

Victoria boasts an array of regional public art galleries and museums of astonishingly high quality. They regularly hold innovative exhibitions based on their own collections, works by local artists and artworks sourced nationally and internationally. Extremely well attended, and often attracting large tourist numbers, these events are significant contributors to the cultural and economic life of their communities.

In 2021 the Foundation is supporting an important exhibition at the Castlemaine Art Museum.

“Melinda Harper in Conversation with the Collection” sees local artist Harper present a collection of her work from 2000 to the present – painting, glass, textiles, assemblage – alongside items from the Museum’s art and social history collections. Continuing a series of “Conversational” exhibitions, art of the past is seen afresh when placed alongside contemporary work, and the modern work acquires new context in the presence of the old. Harper is a multi-disciplinary artist with a national reputation. Active since the mid 1980’s she has exhibited widely in solo, and group shows and is represented in major public and private collections.
